Hero NYPD cop killed in Queens shooting

In a heartbreaking turn of events, NYPD officer Jonathan Diller, aged just 31, lost his life in the line of duty during what should have been a routine traffic stop in Queens, New York.

The tragic incident unfolded on Monday evening when Officer Diller and his partner pulled over a vehicle near 19-19 Mott Avenue in Far Rockaway. As Diller approached the car, the suspect allegedly opened fire, striking the officer below his bulletproof vest.

A Life Cut Short

Officer Diller, a dedicated public servant with three years of service in the NYPD and a young family at home, was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center but could not be saved. He leaves behind a wife and their one-year-old child.

Repeat Offender Arrested

The alleged shooter, identified as 34-year-old Guy Rivera with a lengthy criminal record including 21 prior arrests, was taken into custody at the scene. Police sources reveal Rivera was out on parole at the time of the shooting.

NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban paid tribute to the fallen officer, stating: "Tonight this city lost a hero, a wife lost her husband, and a young child lost their father."

Community in Mourning

As news of Officer Diller's death spread, an impromptu memorial grew outside the 101st Precinct where he served. Fellow officers and community members gathered to pay their respects to the young officer described by colleagues as "the best of us."
