Glasgow tops list with crime rate of 1,431 per 10,000 residents

ProFM Group has named the 15 most dangerous areas in Scotland using official data from the Scottish Government Data Repository. The list ranks regions by crime rate per 10,000 residents. Glasgow City leads with 1,431 crimes per 10,000 residents, a 5.3% increase from the previous year.

According to ProFM Group, Glasgow has the highest rates of road traffic offences (21,636), crimes against society (14,761), and antisocial offences (10,458). The city also saw soaring rates of serious assault (555 incidents)—more than double the next highest area, North Lanarkshire (264)—and drug possession (4,823) and drug supply (1,275), both over two and a half times the next highest.

Dundee City second with 1,337 crimes per 10,000

Dundee City ranks second with a crime rate of 1,337 per 10,000 residents, a 17% rise from last year. The experts highlighted spiralling rates of crimes of dishonesty (6,459) and road traffic crimes (3,892). Theft from motor vehicles (165) placed Dundee third behind Edinburgh and Glasgow.

West Dunbartonshire is third with 1,247 crimes per 10,000 residents. The main issue is traffic offences (3,225), along with crimes of dishonesty and crimes against society.

Edinburgh and Dumfries and Galloway round out top five

Dumfries and Galloway ranks fourth with 1,184 crimes per 10,000 residents, while the City of Edinburgh is fifth with 1,072. Aberdeen City (1,050) and North Lanarkshire (988) follow. North Ayrshire and Renfrewshire both have 928, and East Ayrshire has 895, completing the top ten.

The remaining areas in the top 15 are Inverclyde, Fife, Falkirk, South Lanarkshire, and Argyll and Bute.
