Frontier Flight Passenger Accused of Bomb Threat and Kill Threat in Atlanta
A Frontier Airlines passenger is now in custody following a disturbing incident on a flight that had just landed at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. The individual allegedly threatened to kill his seatmate and declared that he had a bomb on board the aircraft, leading to a significant security response.
Security Alert Declared After Landing
The pilot of Frontier Flight 2539 reported the threats to air traffic control shortly after the Airbus A320 touched down around 5 pm on Sunday. "He's in his seat. He is starting to threaten to kill the lady who's sitting next to him, and he is saying that he has a bomb on board," the pilot communicated to the tower. This prompted the declaration of a level four security alert, indicating crew concerns about a potential cockpit breach.
In response, airport officials redirected the aircraft to a remote area of the runway. Passengers were safely evacuated from the flight, which had departed from Columbus, Ohio, at approximately 2:30 pm. The Atlanta Police Department has described the suspect as an "unruly passenger" rather than a legitimate hijacker, with the FBI now handling the case. The passenger's identity remains undisclosed, and the specific charges he will face are not yet clear.
Passenger Accounts Reveal Tense Atmosphere
Witnesses on board recounted a stressful and chaotic scene. A passenger in Row 10 told WSB-TV that the situation was highly tense. Jessica Kinder, another passenger, reported that flight attendants repeatedly instructed everyone with "Heads down, hands up" as the threat unfolded.
Kinder added that she was seated next to the suspect's travel partner and noted the pair were exchanging voice messages in French, suggesting the accused may have been a French-speaking individual. Keyaira Smith, another passenger, stated that the man had been acting erratically even before boarding in Ohio. "He kept standing. The pilot told him, flight attendants, to sit down. He said that he was going to threaten or kill the flight attendants," Smith explained.
Airline and Authorities Respond
Frontier Airlines issued a brief statement confirming the incident: "As a matter of precaution and in coordination with local authorities, the aircraft parked at a remote location while law enforcement responded." This coordinated effort ensured the safety of all passengers and crew during the investigation.
Coincidentally, around the same time, Atlanta officials were also responding to a non-credible bomb threat at the State Farm Arena in the city, though this appears unrelated to the flight incident. The focus remains on the Frontier Airlines case, highlighting ongoing concerns about air travel security and passenger behaviour.
