A tragic apartment fire in northeastern Spain has resulted in the deaths of five young people and left five others injured, with Catalan authorities launching an investigation into the incident.
Details of the Fire
The blaze originated in the storage room of a five-story apartment block located in Manlleu, a town with a population of 21,000 situated north of Barcelona. Regional authorities in Catalonia confirmed the details on Monday, noting that the victims were unable to escape the attic storage room for reasons that remain unclear at this time.
Victims and Injuries
Catalan police have disclosed that all five deceased individuals were young people who did not reside in the building. The victims will be formally identified later on Tuesday, as some of the bodies were severely charred in the fire.
Among the injured, four individuals have been released from hospitals following treatment, while one other person did not require hospitalisation, according to emergency services reports on Tuesday.

Catalan police have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. They have not specified whether the case is being treated as a possible homicide, leaving the inquiry open to all possibilities.
Salvador Illa, the regional leader of Catalonia, expressed his condolences on social media platform X, stating he was "deeply saddened by the death of five people" and offering sympathy to the families affected by this devastating event.
