A 45-year-old father has been tragically killed in a hunting accident after a rifle accidentally discharged, striking him in the head.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The incident occurred at around 4pm on November 29 in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. According to the Louisiana Department of Fish and Wildlife (LDWF), Garret Verdun was on a hunting trip with a friend when the tragedy unfolded.
Investigators report that the father-of-two was attempting to pass the firearm to his hunting partner as they crossed a cattle guard. It was at this moment that the .308 caliber hunting rifle accidentally discharged. The fatal bullet struck Verdun in the head.
Emergency services pronounced Garret Verdun dead at the scene. The LDWF and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office have confirmed that an investigation into the precise circumstances remains ongoing.
A Daughter's Heartbreaking Tribute
The devastating loss has been met with an outpouring of grief from Verdun's family. His 19-year-old daughter, Chloe Verdun, shared an emotional tribute to her father on social media.
"I wish more than anything I wouldn’t be making this post but i’m so blessed to have shared 19 years with you," she wrote on Facebook. "I love you forever dad and always will. You will forever be my role model and favorite person. Until we meet again , forever will be your love bug. You will be missed dad and never forgotten."
A Life Remembered
Garret Verdun, a native of Raceland known affectionately as 'Lil G', leaves behind his two children, Chloe and Ethan, and his fiancée, Tiffany Hunter.
His obituary painted a picture of a devoted family man and skilled craftsman. It described him as having a 'heart of gold' and a 'contagious smile'.
"Garret had a heart of gold, always ready to lend a hand or offer a comforting word," the tribute read. "His life, though too short, was rich with deep relationships and a boundless capacity for love."
An avid outdoorsman, he found his greatest joy in time spent with his children and family. "Above all else, his family was his passion, always putting them first," the obituary continued. The community is expected to feel the loss of a man remembered for his kindness and warm presence.
