A father has launched a scathing criticism of Queensland Police, claiming they are failing to treat with sufficient seriousness the vicious and unprovoked assault on his 14-year-old daughter on the Sunshine Coast. The brutal incident, which was captured in confronting footage, occurred at Happy Valley in Caloundra, southeast Queensland, on Saturday night.
Graphic Footage of the Assault
Disturbing video from the scene shows the young victim curled up in a defensive ball on the ground while another female teenager, also believed to be around 14 years old, repeatedly kicks and punches her. The attack reportedly erupted after the assailant accused the girl of "talking s***" about her brother.
The footage reveals the attacker stomping on the victim's head, with one forceful connection to her face causing her head to snap backwards and strike the concrete pavement. Throughout the assault, a small crowd can be heard laughing and filming the ordeal rather than intervening. The alleged attacker is heard shouting, "Don't talk s*** on my brother c***," as the violence unfolds.
Father's Account and Police Response
The victim's father explained that he had dropped his daughter off for a social gathering shortly before 8pm, waiting nearby at a restaurant. He then received a panicked call. According to his account, his daughter was king hit before she could comprehend what was happening, knocking her to the ground where she was struck approximately fourteen times and briefly lost consciousness.
Despite making two separate triple-0 emergency calls—one from the scene and another from the hospital—the father asserts that police officers did not attend either location. Paramedics transported the girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, to Sunshine Coast University Hospital where she received overnight treatment on Saturday.
Alleged Inadequate Police Action
The father claims that instead of immediate on-scene response, officers made contact and advised the family to file a formal complaint at their local police station on Monday, describing this guidance as typical for "this sort of thing." This has fueled his anger and sense of injustice regarding the official handling of the case.
He has publicly questioned the sincerity of the Liberal National Party of Queensland's pledges to crack down on the state's youth crime problem. "Where were the police and will the LNP stand by their Adult Time for Adult Crime policy for attacks like this if the alleged attacker is found guilty?" he demanded, echoing calls from the victim's loved ones for the assailant to face adult sentencing laws.
Aftermath and Investigation
The 14-year-old victim was discharged from hospital on Sunday morning suffering from significant bruises and a concussion. She revealed to local media that she did not even know the girl who attacked her and now feels anxious about attending future social events. Her father expressed being "appalled" by the behaviour and fears it will "no doubt" traumatise his daughter long-term.
Queensland Police have confirmed that officers are making inquiries into the incident. The Child Protection Investigation Unit has since become involved with the case. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the assault or possesses relevant footage to come forward and contact police. As of now, no charges have been laid over the attack.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Queensland Police for further comment on the allegations regarding their response and the ongoing investigation into this disturbing act of youth violence.
