Emergency services were called to the flat in George Toon Court just after 11:45am on Tuesday, 23 December 2025. Leicestershire Police have confirmed they believe Mr Geary was assaulted prior to his death.

The force has since arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody for questioning. Detectives stated the victim and the arrested man were known to each other.

A significant police presence remains at the location, with the area cordoned off to allow forensic officers and a specialist search team to conduct a thorough examination. Officers are also conducting house-to-house enquiries and reviewing local CCTV footage to piece together the victim's final movements.

Tribute to a 'Kind Caring Soul'

In an emotional statement released through the police, Mr Geary's grieving family paid tribute to a "much-loved son and brother". They described him as a "kind caring soul" who had served his country in the Army.

"The support he has given our family will never be forgotten," the family said. "We are so proud of what he achieved in his career. We would ask the public to please respect our privacy at this very difficult time."

Leading the investigation, Detective Inspector Kevin Hames provided an update. "A team of detectives from the major crime team, supported by specialist resources and local neighbourhood officers, are working to understand exactly what has occurred," he said.

DI Hames confirmed the incident is believed to have happened inside the flat on Tuesday morning. He added: "While our investigation is still in its early stage, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time."
