Community Impact and Police Appeal
Chief Superintendent Emma Aldred addressed the public in a statement, expressing her thoughts for the injured, their families, and witnesses. She acknowledged the shock felt across Derby and the wider county, thanking the public, partner agencies, local businesses, and the media for their cooperation and patience during the investigation.
While the charges represent a significant development, Aldred emphasised that the investigation is ongoing. She appealed for anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward, urging the public to avoid speculation online to ensure the judicial process proceeds without hindrance.
Legal Proceedings and Public Interest
Janine McKinney of the Crown Prosecution Service stated that prosecutors have determined there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that pursuing criminal proceedings is in the public interest. This decision follows careful collaboration with Derbyshire Police throughout their investigative efforts.
The case continues to unfold as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the car mounting the pavement. The community remains on alert, with police reinforcing their commitment to justice for all those affected by this traumatic incident.
