Armed Police Arrest Man with Weapon in Rosyth

Armed police arrested a man "wielding a weapon" in Rosyth after a large police presence swarmed the area. Specialist firearms officers rushed to Backmarch Road in the Fife town on Tuesday afternoon following a report of a disturbance.

Police received a report at around 2.25pm of a man with a weapon causing a disturbance. Officers traced the male to Queensferry Road a short time later. A 40-year-old man was arrested in connection and taken to hospital for treatment to an earlier injury. The force has not yet confirmed if the man has been charged.

Images from the scene showed armed officers holding a man on the ground with tasers and guns pointed at him. One could be heard shouting "lie down" and "get your hands out in front of you like Superman." A large police presence was spotted outside a row of shops in the town.

Police Scotland added that enquiries into the incident, which was contained, are ongoing. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 40-year-old man has been arrested following a report of a disturbance in Rosyth. Around 2.25pm on Tuesday, 16 June, 2026, we were called to a report of a man with a weapon causing a disturbance in the Backmarch Road area. Officers, including specialist firearms officers, attended and the man was traced on Queensferry Road a short time later. He was arrested in connection and taken to hospital for treatment to an earlier injury. Enquiries remain ongoing. The incident was contained and members of the public are thanked for their patience while officers responded."
