The incident occurred during the highly-anticipated European clash at Villa Park, where the Midlands club secured a 4-0 victory over their Israeli opponents. However, the sporting achievement was marred by offensive chanting from sections of the home crowd.
Police Response and Investigation
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed they are "reviewing footage of the match" after becoming aware of "a number of offensive chants being directed toward the away supporters." The force emphasised that such behaviour "will not be tolerated" and that they are working closely with Aston Villa Football Club to identify those responsible.
The investigation comes amid heightened tensions in the football community regarding appropriate conduct at matches, particularly involving Israeli teams following recent conflicts in the Middle East.
Club's Strong Stance
Aston Villa released a statement reiterating their zero-tolerance policy toward discrimination of any kind. The club emphasised their commitment to creating an inclusive environment at Villa Park and pledged full cooperation with police authorities.
"We are aware of the allegations and are working with West Midlands Police," a club representative stated. "Any form of discriminatory behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place in football or society."
