Georgia Tennant, the actress and wife of renowned Doctor Who star David Tennant, has made a desperate plea to police after being targeted with a series of vile death threats online.
A Disturbing Escalation
The 40-year-old star took to social media to reveal the frightening situation, which has recently intensified. She confirmed she has now reached out to the Metropolitan Police for intervention after being sent messages that explicitly threatened her life.
Georgia, who is also the daughter of former Doctor Who actor Peter Davison, shared a particularly alarming post from September that stated: "Whoever kills Georgia Tennant immediately will receive a reward from me." Expressing her frustration with the platform's inaction, she directly questioned Facebook, asking what would constitute a breach of its community standards.
Platform Inaction and Continued Harassment
The situation was compounded when a moderator from the social media giant reportedly responded that the threatening post did not violate platform rules and therefore did not need to be removed. This was not an isolated incident from the account, which had previously sent other menacing messages.
Further threats included statements such as 'Soon there will be an obituary to read of a certain person' and the direct command 'Georgia Tennant must be killed'. The harasser also made delusional claims about a relationship with David Tennant, writing: "David Tennant and I are meant for each other, we both belong together, and I will do everything to make David Tennant and I together."
A Family in the Public Eye
Georgia and David Tennant, who tied the knot in 2011 after meeting on the set of Doctor Who, are parents to five children, including their son Wilfred. The couple have never been shy about their strong support for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly trans rights.
This public advocacy is believed to be a potential motive behind the targeted hate. In July 2023, David participated in a photoshoot for Good Omens wearing a t-shirt that read "Leave trans kids alone, you absolute freaks". Furthermore, Georgia has proudly displayed a tattoo on her wrist that states "Trans rights are human rights," which she showed off at last year's Baftas ceremony.
The family has previously shared photos of themselves wearing rainbow colours in support of Pride, solidifying their status as vocal allies. As the police investigation begins, fans and supporters have rallied around the actress, condemning the abuse and calling for stricter action against online harassment.
