The serene facade of a New Mexico community has been shattered by a case that is as tragic as it is shocking. Alexee Trevizo, a 19-year-old cheerleader, now stands accused of the first-degree murder of her own newborn son in a case that unfolded within the walls of a local hospital.
The incident occurred at Artesia General Hospital, where Trevizo had arrived complaining of severe back pain. Unbeknownst to the medical staff, she was in the final stages of a concealed pregnancy. Shortly after being admitted to a private bathroom, a grim discovery was made.
A Grim Discovery and a Cover-Up
Hospital staff, growing concerned after Trevizo spent an extended period locked inside, gained entry to find a scene of horror. Despite her claims that nothing was wrong, vigilant cleaners spotted blood and made the tragic find: the body of a full-term baby boy, tightly sealed inside a plastic liner and hidden at the bottom of a rubbish bin.
An autopsy later confirmed the devastating truth—the infant was born alive and had air in his lungs, meaning he had drawn breath before his death. The cause of death was ruled as homicidal asphyxiation.
