Three plead guilty after triple stabbing outside Liverpool bar

Three men have admitted a string of charges following a triple stabbing in Liverpool city centre. Merseyside Police found three men injured on Tithebarn Street after an incident believed to have occurred outside GBar on nearby Eberle Street last month.

Jonny Gee, Stephen Gee and Patrick Morgan were charged with several offences in relation to the altercation and appeared before Liverpool Crown Court this afternoon, Wednesday.

Court appearances and pleas

Appearing via video link to HMP Altcourse, 18-year-old Jonny Gee, of Halkyn Drive in Everton, pleaded guilty to wounding without intent, possession of a bladed article in a public place and violent disorder, having denied two counts of wounding with intent. Stephen Gee, aged 22 and also of Halkyn Drive, pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent but admitted violent disorder.

Patrick Morgan, 31, of Canterbury Way in Everton, also appeared remotely from Altcourse prison and pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, another charge of wounding without intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place. Philip Astbury, prosecuting, said: "Those pleas have been canvassed in advance. Those pleas are deemed, in the round, acceptable on this indictment."

Sentencing scheduled

All three will be sentenced on November 27 and were further remanded into custody until that date. Adjourning the case, Judge Ian Harris said: "All defendants will be remanded in custody. I have ordered pre-sentence reports."

"All options are wide open, including, of course, custody and including consideration of the dangerousness provisions. The fact that I am ordering reports does not mean people will not lose their liberty on the next occasion. This was a serious matter."

Incident details and aftermath

Officers were called to the scene at around 6.30am on Sunday, September 20, with an earlier altercation between two groups inside GBar having apparently continued out in the street. Two men were taken to hospital in a stable condition, with a third said to have sustained minor injuries.

The suspected weapon was recovered by Merseyside Police, with cordons placed on Tithebarn Street, Eberle Lane and Temple Lane. Detective Chief Inspector Lisa McNaughton said: "We understand the concern that such a serious incident will cause in the community. This is why it is so vital that anyone with information comes forward as a matter of urgency."

GBar initially had its licence suspended by Liverpool City Council following the stabbing, but the gay bar was allowed to reopen by the council’s licensing and gambling sub-committee following a Town Hall meeting last week.
