The 15-year-old convicted of murdering Kayden Moy comes from a family with a murky criminal past involving gangland shootings and drugs. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty of killing the 16-year-old at Irvine beach in May 2025 following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow last week.
Two other individuals were also convicted: Jay Stewart, 18, and Cole Turley, 18, who pleaded guilty to the murder before the trial. During the proceedings, it was revealed that the 15-year-old handed the lock-back knife to Turley, who then used it to fatally stab Kayden.
Family criminal background
The Record has uncovered that members of the child's family have criminal histories. One male relative was the victim of a targeted shooting, while a female relative was convicted of supplying drugs.
Gang affiliation
Kayden's murderers were part of the notorious East Kilbride 'Murray Boys' gang. A source told The Record that the 15-year-old was recruited after his family allowed him to befriend Jay Stewart. "The boy's family basically let him strike up a close friendship with Jay and hang around with his gang," the source said.
The Record previously reported that the Murray Boys blade gang had been terrorising locals in the town leading up to Kayden's murder. They regularly posted on social media brandishing blades and inciting violence.

One photograph shows Stewart, with his face covered by a checkered scarf, holding a Rambo-style machete. His arm is around the masked 15-year-old, who is holding a bottle of Buckfast and a blade. Other pictures show the youths with hoods up and faces masked, sitting on a bus clutching bottles of Buckfast.
On the day of the murder, the trio travelled to Irvine Beach looking for a fight with Kayden's Himshie gang. The trial heard that rocks "the size of hands" were thrown at Moy and his friends, while Stewart wielded a baton. Kayden and two unarmed friends confronted the three teenagers.
The murder
Turley then produced a large lock-back knife, while Stewart held a police-style extendable baton. One of Kayden's friends, who gave evidence, told the pair to get rid of their weapons and offered to "box" them in a fist fight. They rushed at Kayden, and when he fell to the ground, Turley stabbed him to death. Stewart shouted 'Murray Boys' in the moments after the stabbing.
Family tribute
Following the verdict, Kayden's parents, Paul and Ashley, said: "Kayden was an amazing, caring boy who lit up every room he walked into. He brought happiness to everyone around him. Every morning we wake up and are faced again with the reality that he is gone. We will never hear his laugh again, never see his smile, never watch him achieve the goals he worked so hard for."
