Waterloo Tube Station Closed Due to Security Alert

Waterloo Underground station, London's busiest tube hub, was closed this morning due to a security alert, causing major disruption for commuters. The closure began at 7:11 am on 29 December after a report of a suspicious item, according to British Transport Police.

Transport for London (TfL) confirmed the station was shut while authorities responded to the alert, with tickets being accepted on London Buses. The Waterloo & City Line was also suspended, and the station remained quieter than usual as passengers avoided the area.

Waterloo serves around 250,000 people daily and is used by four tube lines: Bakerloo, Jubilee, Northern, and Waterloo & City. In 2024, it recorded 77.39 million passengers, making it the most used station on the London Underground.
