A devastating head-on collision on a rural road near the England-Wales border has claimed the lives of three people, with a fourth person surviving with serious injuries. The tragic incident occurred on the A489 between Church Stoke and Lydham, an area locally known as Snead.
Details of the Fatal Collision
Dyfed-Powys Police were called to the scene at approximately 4.50pm on Thursday, December 11, 2025. The vehicles involved were a grey Audi A4 and a red Toyota Yaris. The driver of the Audi, 86-year-old John Pryce Jones from Craven Arms, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tragically, the two occupants of the Toyota Yaris, David and Pamela Richardson, also lost their lives. The couple had only recently moved to the Welsh border countryside from Merseyside to enjoy their retirement. A third passenger in the Yaris, believed to be the couple's son, survived the crash. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital by air ambulance.
Police Investigation and Tractor Involvement
Officers confirmed that a blue tractor with a front attachment was travelling on the same stretch of road at the time of the collision. The initial police investigation suggests that one of the cars may have been in the process of overtaking the tractor when it collided with the oncoming vehicle.
An investigation is ongoing, and police are appealing for witnesses. They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the collision, the vehicles prior to the crash, or who may have dashcam footage from that road around the time of the incident.
Families Pay Tribute to Loved Ones
The family of John Pryce Jones described him as a 'larger-than-life character' who was well-known locally, even by the nickname 'Thiabendazole'. In a statement, they expressed their gratitude for the support received and said he would be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The family of David and Pamela Richardson paid tribute to them as 'loving members of our family' who were 'very special to us all'. They thanked the public for their support during this horrific time and asked for privacy as they grieve.
A police spokesperson extended condolences to the families and confirmed that next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
