All trains to and from Stockport have been stopped due to overhead line damage, rail bosses have announced.
Network Rail chiefs from Manchester Piccadilly station said shortly after 5am an issue with infrastructure meant services are not running to and from the Greater Manchester town, which sits on the West Coast Mainline. Emergency works are currently taking place.
Emergency repair work underway
Network Rail said on X, formerly Twitter: "Due to overhead line damage, trains are not running to and from Stockport. Our engineers are on site to undertake emergency repair work. Check National Rail before you travel."
Impact on services
Trains from Piccadilly to Stockport often include services to London Euston, one of the busiest train routes in the UK.
