A pioneering remote airport terminal has opened in Framingham, Massachusetts, offering passengers flying out of Boston's Logan International Airport the convenience of completing TSA screening and checking luggage nearly 25 miles from the airport. The Logan Airport Remote Terminal, situated at 19 Flutie Pass, began operations on June 1, marking a first-of-its-kind facility in the United States.
How the Remote Terminal Works
Travelers using the remote terminal can check in for their flights, drop off their luggage, and undergo security checks before boarding a dedicated shuttle bus that transports them directly to their airside gate at Logan Airport. During the pilot phase, the service is available exclusively to passengers flying with Delta Air Lines and JetBlue on flights scheduled between 5:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Shuttle buses operate hourly from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m., with tickets priced at $9 each way.
Cost and Parking Benefits
The Framingham site offers approximately 400 parking spaces at a rate of $7 per day, significantly cheaper than parking rates at Logan Airport. This cost-effective option aims to reduce the financial burden on travelers while providing a more seamless travel experience.
Reducing Airport Stress
The initiative is designed to provide a more convenient and less stressful travel experience by allowing passengers to bypass long lines at the main airport. Modeled after similar systems operated by The Landline Company in other major U.S. cities, the remote terminal is expected to alleviate congestion at Logan and streamline the boarding process.
Passengers are advised to check with their airline for eligibility and to plan their arrival at the remote terminal accordingly. The pilot phase will help determine the feasibility of expanding the service to other airlines and flight times in the future.
