Mersey Ferries suspended for second day due to technical issue

Mersey Ferries has suspended all services for a second consecutive day because of an unspecified technical issue. The operator, run by Liverpool City Region's Merseytravel, confirmed on Sunday that services remained suspended and thanked passengers for their patience.

On Saturday, all services were halted "due to a technical issue," with the disruption lasting the entire day and resulting in no ferry operations. The problem has continued into Sunday, with the operator again citing a "technical issue" in its latest update.

Operator apologises and asks for patience

In a social media statement, Mersey Ferries said: "Due to a technical issue, services are currently suspended. Keep checking back and we'll let you know when services are likely to resume. Thank you for patience as our teams work to restore a full service."

The operator has not specified which of its two vessels is affected, the nature of the fault, or how long the suspension will last.

Fleet includes new £26m Royal Daffodil

Mersey Ferries operates two ships: the MV Snowdrop and the MV Royal Daffodil. The Royal Daffodil entered service last month, replacing the decommissioned Royal Iris of the Mersey. The £26m vessel was built by Birkenhead shipbuilder Cammell Laird and made its maiden passenger voyage after being officially launched.

It remains unclear which ferry is experiencing the issue, and the ECHO has contacted Merseytravel for an update.

Cross-river and cruise services affected

Mersey Ferries runs sightseeing river cruises that offer views of the city's historic waterfront, as well as a direct cross-river service each weekday morning and evening between Seacombe, Wirral, and the Pier Head. Both services are currently suspended.
