Mersey Ferries Suspended for Nine Days as New Statement Issued
Mersey Ferries Suspended for Nine Days as New Statement Issued

Mersey Ferries services remain suspended into a second week, with the operator apologising for the ongoing disruption caused by mechanical issues.

The ferries were first suspended last Saturday due to what officials described as a "technical issue", and cancellations have now extended beyond nine days. A statement issued on X at 7.25am this morning said: "Due to mechanical issues, services are currently suspended. Keep checking back and we'll let you know when services are likely to resume. Thank you for patience as our teams work to restore a full service."

Replacement Services and Ticket Unavailability

A statement on the Mersey Ferries website added: "Commuter service AM/PM - Bus replacement between Hamilton Square and Seacombe. We will provide a further update as soon as more information becomes available."

The website also noted that tickets for the Liverpool Sightseeing River Cruise are currently unavailable, with an apology for any inconvenience caused.

Why Have the Ferries Been Suspended for So Long?

The ferry operator, which comes under the management of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, has consistently cited technical and mechanical issues for the disruption. The Snowdrop is currently the only vessel operating on the route.

Earlier this year, the Royal Iris ferry was retired from service and decommissioned after 67 years. It is being replaced by the new £26m Royal Daffodil vessel, which is expected to enter full service later this month. The new ferry is currently completing its final trials on the water.
