The Victorian premier has announced that the long-awaited Melbourne Metro Tunnel will begin passenger services in early December, marking the biggest overhaul of the transport system since the 1980s.
The Metro Tunnel will connect the Sunbury line in the west to the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines in the south-east via five new underground city stations: Anzac, Arden, Parkville, State Library and Town Hall.
During the initial 'summer start' period in December, trains will run every 20 minutes. Commuters will have to wait until 1 February for 'turn up and go' services with more frequent trains.
