Train passengers are facing widespread disruption this morning after damage to overhead wires between Stafford and Birmingham blocked the line. The fault is affecting Avanti West Coast services heading from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston, as well as CrossCountry services to Birmingham, Bristol, Southampton and Bournemouth.

Delays and cancellations expected

Services may be delayed by up to half an hour, revised or cancelled, according to National Rail. The disruption is expected to last until early afternoon.

Passengers are being warned to expect several hours of disruption while engineers work to repair the damaged wires.
