A serious crash on the M11 in Essex is causing significant disruption for travellers heading to and from Stansted Airport, with motorists warned to expect lane closures for the majority of the day.

National Highways has confirmed that lane 2 (of 2) is closed on the M11 in both directions between junction 8 for Stansted Airport and junction 9 for Newmarket following an earlier collision. Barrier repairs are currently underway at the scene.
The collision was first reported at 8:11 am, and drivers are facing long delays and heavy congestion in both directions as a result.
Current Delays
According to National Highways, there are current delays of approximately 30 minutes in both directions, with around 3 miles of congestion on approach to the affected area.
Tourists planning to fly from Stansted Airport are particularly affected, with many facing travel chaos as they attempt to reach the airport.
Authorities advise motorists to allow extra time for their journeys and to consider alternative routes where possible. The lane closures are expected to remain in place for most of the day while barrier repairs are completed.
