Jeremy Clarkson has named the Welsh fishing village of Aberaeron as his top UK holiday destination, praising its colourful harbour and Regency-style architecture. Writing in The Sunday Times, the former Top Gear presenter described the Ceredigion town as 'achingly beautiful' and claimed it rivals his favourite spots in north Devon and Yorkshire.
Clarkson highlighted the Harbourmaster Hotel as 'the best hotel in the world', surpassing even the Four Seasons in Miami. He praised its staff, views, and the availability of Hawkstone Brewery drinks, in which he owns a stake. His dinner of deep-fried cockles and sea trout was followed by a sunset walk along the sea wall, which he said matched Caribbean scenery despite cooler temperatures.
The presenter noted that Aberaeron felt 'delightfully foreign' and offered a solution for holidaymakers deterred by rising overseas travel costs due to global conflicts. He described the town's terraced cottages, honey ice cream shop, and hipster street food van, adding that it was 'full of Enid Blyton kids going fishing and eating chips out of newspaper'.
