The San Antonio Spurs found an unconventional source of inspiration ahead of their crucial Game 4 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Trailing 2-1 in the Western Conference Finals, the team received a visit from a group of nuns before tip-off on Sunday.
Nuns Courtside
The Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco were granted courtside access prior to the contest, watching as both teams warmed up. Spurs center Luke Kornet, a practicing Catholic, approached the sisters and requested a blessing through the laying on of hands. After the blessing, Kornet made the sign of the cross and thanked the sisters.
Spurs Dominate Game 4
Whether the sisters' presence influenced the outcome or not, the Spurs delivered a commanding performance. Victor Wembanyama led the charge with 33 points, eight rebounds, five assists, two steals, and three blocks in a dominant 103-82 victory. The Spurs had four players in double figures, including guards Stephon Castle (13 points, three rebounds, six assists), Devin Vassell (12 points, six rebounds, three assists), and De'Aaron Fox (12 points, ten rebounds, five assists).
Kornet contributed six points, seven rebounds, and two blocks in 13 minutes. The Thunder struggled, shooting just 18 percent from three-point range and committing 17 turnovers. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City with 19 points, four rebounds, and seven assists.
Series Tied
The series is now tied at 2-2, with Game 5 set to return to Oklahoma City.
