Jet2, Ryanair and easyJet Flight Warning: £100 Booking Advice Amid Fuel Crisis

Europe is facing a deepening fuel crisis due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East, raising concerns about summer holidays. The International Energy Agency has warned that supply issues could emerge within five to six weeks, with the owner of British Airways noting that flight tickets may rise in line with soaring fuel costs.

The crisis stems from the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, a passage for 20% of the world's fuel, which has led to rapid petrol price increases. EU energy commissioner Dan Jorgensen said it is "very likely that many people's holidays will be affected, either by flight cancellations or very, very expensive tickets".

UK airlines Jet2, Ryanair and easyJet are covered by UK law if flights are cancelled. Passengers are entitled to a refund or alternative flight. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) confirms that for cancelled outward travel on a return ticket, a full refund is available.

Experts advise paying for flights with a credit card for purchases between £100 and £30,000, as this provides Section 75 protection under the Consumer Credit Act. Global aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas warned that flights could be cut at the last minute, with Europe particularly exposed, especially for long-haul travel.

Travel experts also stress the importance of travel insurance. Dr David Beirman stated, "To not travel with insurance these days is pretty crazy," noting that most policies cover cancellation or major changes, and insurance companies can help financially if airlines are difficult about refunds.
