Rylan Defends Colleague After 'Nasty' Caller Message

Rylan Clark issued a firm warning to a listener who left a 'nasty' message for his BBC Radio 2 colleague, Sally Boazman. During his Saturday afternoon show, the 37-year-old presenter defended Boazman after a caller criticised her on the travel line.

Listener's 'Charming' Message Sparks Defence

Rylan, who has hosted the slot since 2019, regularly interacts with traffic presenter Sally Boazman and assistant producer Lotte Uttley. On his latest programme, he revealed a listener had left a 'charming' message targeting Boazman. When asked if the caller left their details, Boazman replied: 'No, because people who leave those kind of messages don't leave their name.'

Rylan's On-Air Warning

Standing up for his colleague, Rylan said: 'I'm just going to say this now. I am the only person who is allowed to take the mick out of Sally. I am the only person that is allowed to talk to Sally like that, because she knows it is in jest. If you think you can call that travel line and speak to Sally like I have just heard you speak to her... A woman of her expertise, a woman of her age, a woman of her knowledge at what she does, I've got your number, and I'm telling you now, I will call you back personally on air, and believe me, it won't go down well for you sir.'

He added: 'So to the lovely gentleman who decided to call Sally with a barrage of abuse, we've got your number and I will find you.'

Protective of Colleagues

Rylan said he is 'very protective' of his broadcasting colleagues. He remarked: 'I'm up for a joke, you know me, but that was nasty.' Boazman revealed she frequently responds to unpleasant messages and said: 'I feel very safe around you.' Rylan joked: 'When it's not a nasty message for me, I will go them. I'll fight for you Sal, I'll fight for you. I'll scalp them.'

Rylan's Career Journey

Rylan, who rose to fame on The X Factor before entering the Celebrity Big Brother house weeks after his elimination, admitted he used to read negative comments online. He determined that replying gave critics 'what they wanted'. Since leaving the Big Brother house, his career has flourished, including appearances on Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two, This Morning, and The One Show. His show Rob and Rylan's Grand Tour with close friend Rob Rinder earned a BAFTA in 2025.
