Emergency services rushed to Hammersmith Underground Station on Friday morning following reports of a casualty on the track, causing significant disruption to the Piccadilly and District lines.
Emergency Response at the Scene
Witnesses reported a major emergency services presence at the station from around 8:36 am on November 29, 2025. Photographs from the scene showed multiple response vehicles, including three ambulances, three fire engines, two police cars, and two Incident Response Units.
Nick Soar, a 52-year-old witness at the scene, described paramedics 'rushing in' with equipment to assist. He expressed his concerns, stating: 'My thoughts are very much with any injured people and the emergency services who will face I'm sure horrible scenes. All very brave.'
Station Closures and Travel Chaos
Transport for London confirmed there had sadly been a 'casualty on the track' at Hammersmith station on the Piccadilly line. In response, station entrances for both the District and Piccadilly lines were temporarily closed with shutters down.
TfL staff were praised for their compassionate handling of the situation, guiding passengers to alternative stations while signs advised travellers to 'make alternative arrangements'.
Ongoing Service Disruptions
The incident caused significant travel disruption during the morning rush hour. Services on the District Line experienced delays between Earl's Court and Ealing Broadway.
However, by late morning, Piccadilly Line services had resumed between Acton Town and Hyde Park Corner. London Underground services began stopping at Hammersmith again, and the station reopened to passengers.
The swift response from emergency services including police, paramedics, and fire crews helped manage the challenging situation, though the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
