A woman in China has admitted she feels 'silly' after spending nearly three years watering a houseplant every day, only to discover it was made of plastic.
Ms Liu bought the succulent online and cared for it 'like a baby', watering it daily. She noticed blue-coloured veins on the plant that changed colour over time, which she believed indicated healthy growth.
It was only when she shared images of the plant on social media that she realised she could not move the leaves with her hand, and it dawned on her that the plant was fake.
Despite the embarrassment, Ms Liu said she could see the funny side of the situation. Her story echoes a similar incident last year, when Caelie Wilkes from Australia watered a fake succulent for over two years before discovering the truth while repotting it.
Ms Wilkes said she felt 'devastated' and that the last two years had been a 'lie'. Her story was shared on an Australian indoor plant group, where others admitted to similar mistakes, including a man who watered a fake plant for a year after his wife died.
