Declan Rice scored a late equaliser as Arsenal battled back to earn a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in a high-quality Champions League encounter at the Allianz Arena.
Arsenal were knocked off course early in the match when Bukayo Saka limped off inside the opening ten minutes, but they recovered to take the lead through his replacement Eberechi Eze.
Bayern fight back through Kane and Davies
Bayern grew into the match and Harry Kane almost inevitably had an impact. His assist for Alphonso Davies’ equaliser was world-class and Kane then put Bayern in front from the penalty spot.
But Arsenal left the Allianz Arena with a point for their efforts, as Rice combined with Viktor Gyokeres and found the bottom corner with eight minutes remaining.
Key performers and concerns
David Raya rated 8 after brilliant distribution early on troubled Bayern and got Arsenal on the front foot. He made a sharp stop to deny Gnabry but had little chance of stopping Davies’ equaliser or Kane’s penalty, and made a stunning save from an Upamecano header.
Declan Rice was the star man with a 9 rating, dragging Arsenal level as he seized control, bursting into the box and finishing brilliantly. He had important moments at both ends in an open match.
Eberechi Eze also earned a 9 for his substitute performance, firing a top finish past Neuer as an emphatic answer to recent criticism. He looked really bright throughout, winning a free-kick just outside the area after skipping past Laimer.
Martin Odegaard rated 8, with a sensational pass to play Eze in for the opener and superb set-piece delivery that could have produced three more assists. Gabriel also scored 8, making more clearances and interceptions than any other Arsenal player.
Mixed nights for others
Bruno Guimaraes rated 5, strong in the duels and composed in possession but badly exposed when Bayern broke. Kai Havertz scored just 4, with his form dropping off significantly and the game passing him by, leading to a booking for a wild lunge.
Jurrien Timber conceded the penalty for blocking Kane’s shot with his arm and was left isolated against Davies, while Bukayo Saka was forced off inside ten minutes with what looked to be a quad injury.
Substitutes Myles Lewis-Skelly and Viktor Gyokeres both rated 7, with Gyokeres providing a decisive contribution off the bench with a perfect lay-off for Rice’s equaliser.
