A British tourist has been arrested at Miami International Airport after allegedly taking a four-year-old boy from his mother and refusing to hand him back. Alvina Omisri Agba, 23, from Luton, Bedfordshire, was detained on Tuesday following a chaotic altercation in the check-in area.
According to police reports, the child was crying while waiting in a queue with his mother. Agba allegedly offered to take the boy to calm him down, and the mother agreed. However, Agba then walked away with the child and, when officers found her, she had her arms and legs wrapped around the boy, preventing him from escaping.
The situation escalated when the mother attempted to retrieve her son, leading to a physical struggle over the child. Airport staff and police intervened, eventually arresting Agba. The child sustained deep scratches to his neck but was later able to board his flight with his mother.
Agba faces charges of interfering with custody and battery. She is being held at the Turner Guilford Correctional Center on a $3,500 (£2,600) bond. Local media reports that she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
When read her rights, Agba allegedly told officers she was taking the child to a rainbow-painted wall to calm him down and claimed she acted because 'God told her to do it.' It remains unclear if Agba knew the boy or his mother prior to the incident.
