A woman is in critical condition after being bitten by a shark at Sydney's Coogee Beach, one of Australia's most popular swimming spots. Experts believe the animal was likely a white shark, which is rarely seen at Coogee, distinguishing it from the bull shark attacks that have occurred in New South Wales over the summer.
The incident has heightened concerns among beachgoers and sparked renewed debate about how authorities should respond to shark encounters. On Sunday, NSW Agriculture Minister Tara Moriarty stated that the government is taking the situation 'very, very seriously' and that 'nothing is off the table' as it considers next steps.
Despite the recent attack, shark incidents at Coogee remain extremely rare. Authorities continue to monitor the area and advise swimmers to follow safety guidelines, such as swimming between the flags and avoiding dawn and dusk when sharks are most active.
