Sunflower Trail Returns to County Durham Farm with Funfair and More
Sunflower Trail Returns to County Durham Farm with Funfair

East Grange Farm in County Durham will open its giant Sunflower Trail this Saturday, August 15, with tickets now on sale. The farm confirmed the trail's return for 2026 at the end of July, and this week announced that tickets are available ahead of opening day.

Trail History and Success

The first immersive trail at East Grange Farm in High Shincliffe, just outside Durham city, debuted in 2022 and proved an immediate hit with families. It has since enjoyed similar success, with even more acres of land given over to the giant blooms, save for its cancellation in 2024 when unseasonal chill and rain prevented crops from growing properly.

This year's super-sunny conditions have suited the flowers, and visitors can expect another spectacular display, making up a sea of yellow on the farm site where in previous years they have walked through blooms towering over their heads.

Attractions and Activities

As well as immersing themselves in sunflowers and taking advantage of lots of photo opportunities, visitors will have an opportunity to take home a few mementos of their visit. There will be sunflowers available to pick for £1 a stem.

As usual, there will be plenty other attractions too, including fairground rides, bird of prey display Gosling raptors; a trail quiz and, on certain dates, face-painting and visits by caricaturist Tom Hebdon and The Hartlepool Bubbleman. There also will be business stalls and food stalls, although families are welcome to take along picnics too.

Opening Details and Ticket Information

The farm also will be sharing ticket information soon on a children's disco. From August 15, the trail will be open to visitors until August 23 - and possibly longer if the sunflowers last well.

Last daily entry will be 3pm-3.10pm so that the fields can be cleared by 6pm, save for planned late openings for live music evenings when it will have extended hours. Tickets to the Sunflower Trail need to be booked in advance. They cost £5.24, which includes a fee, although children aged two or under can be taken along for free.
