Stirling Named UK's Best Place to Visit for 2026

Stirling has been named the best place to visit in the UK for 2026 by Time Out, beating Edinburgh to the top spot. The historic Scottish city, nestled in central Scotland, is renowned for its rich heritage and scenic beauty.

A Historic Gem Takes the Crown

Surrounded by fertile farmland, Stirling boasts a medieval old town and the magnificent Stirling Castle, perched on a volcanic rock. Its Old Bridge and port add to its heritage, along with landmarks like the National Wallace Monument and Stirling Old Town Jail.

History enthusiasts will be captivated by the Bannockburn Experience, which uses "cutting-edge technology" to bring "the 14th century battle to life for 21st century audiences", according to Your Stirling. Visitors can "see the actual battlefield where it all happened more than 700 years ago".

Why Visit Stirling in 2026

Stirling is a compact, walkable city, often described as the "Heart of Scotland". Time Out noted: "For those partial to a tipple, Stirling Distillery (the city's first ever distillery) will release its first batch of Stirling whisky in late 2026, and independent venues will celebrate Stirling Cocktail Week with serious food and drinks deals all over the city."

This year also saw the conclusion of the city's 900th anniversary festivities, which had been "ongoing since 2024" but culminated with a Culture Night at Stirling Castle. Time Out also highlighted "the launch of an affordable direct train service from London that will make the city cheaper, easier and more accessible to get to than ever".

Other Scottish Destinations on the List

Stirling wasn't the only Scottish destination featured. Edinburgh secured fourth place, and Caithness, at the top of mainland Scotland, came in sixth.
