Red Squirrel in Glencoe has been named the most beautiful place to pitch a tent in Scotland, according to a new survey by Isuzu. The survey of 2,000 UK adults placed the campsite third on the UK-wide list.
Top Scottish camping spots
The Red Squirrel Campsite, located 14 miles from Fort William, spans 22 acres of wooded land surrounded by the mountains of Argyll. The grounds have been used for camping since 1914, and the site welcomes both wild camping and campervans. Facilities include toilets and hot water, with breakfast and dinner provided by local company Just Good Food on most weekends.
Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park came in second for Scotland and fourth overall. The park offers organised campsites, loch-shore permit areas, and numerous wild camping spots.
Fidden Farm on the Isle of Mull is the third Scottish destination on the list, placing 12th overall. The family-run campsite sits along a bay on Mull's coastline, with shallow waters ideal for swimming and paddle boarding, plus rock pools for children.
Survey findings
Great Langdale in the Lake District took the top spot on the UK-wide list, praised for its walking routes and views of the Langdale Pikes. The survey also found that peace and quiet is the main reason people enjoy camping, followed by being outdoors, stargazing, and hearing birdsong.
Putting up a tent in the rain was named the worst aspect of camping. Other dislikes included nighttime toilet trips, rain inside the tent, and cold showers. Gen Z showed the most enthusiasm for camping, while those over 60 were least likely to camp. More than half of respondents said camping is the only way to holiday.
