Thirteen children and one adult were injured on Wednesday when a rollercoaster derailed at Coney Beach Pleasure Park in Porthcawl, South Wales. The 'Wacky Worm' ride came off the tracks, leaving children suspended above the ground and requiring rescue.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang and seeing safety railings fall. Children were screaming and some had blood pouring from their noses. One child reportedly had teeth knocked out. Seven children were taken to hospital by ambulance.
The incident occurred just weeks before the park, which opened in 1918, is due to close permanently in October to make way for a new development. The park stated that the Wacky Worm was a third-party ride and that police had instructed them to clear the site for investigation.
South Wales Police confirmed 13 children and one adult sustained minor injuries, with some requiring hospital treatment. The park remains closed while investigations by police and the Health and Safety Executive continue.
