Ryanair has issued a stark warning to passengers this summer as the new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) continues to cause disruption at airports across Europe. The airline's boss, Michael O'Leary, said flights will not be delayed for anyone stuck in passport control queues.
Speaking on the Telegraph's Travel Expert podcast, Mr O'Leary was asked how long the airline would wait for passengers caught in long queues. He replied: 'We will not wait for anybody. If you are stuck, if you are not at the boarding gate when we finish boarding, the plane is going without you.'
The EES, which was fully implemented in April, has led to hours-long queues at many EU and Schengen area airports. Travel expert Simon Calder described the system as a 'Euro shambles' and named Milan Malpensa, Lisbon, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt and Copenhagen as the worst affected.
Mr O'Leary urged passengers to arrive at the airport earlier than usual and ensure they are at the boarding gate on time. 'We are not delaying our flights for people who are stuck in passport control queues,' he added.
The warning comes as thousands of Brits prepare to jet off for their summer holidays, with many already experiencing significant delays during peak travel periods.
