The Great British Summer Savings website has launched, offering families in Wales cheaper days out and children's meals at restaurants including Nando's, Odeon, Loungers, Techniquest, Rhondda Heritage Park and Dan-yr-Ogof show caves.
VAT Reduction Drives Savings
Chancellor Rachel Reeves cut VAT from 20% to 5% on eligible activities from June 25 to September 1. This includes family cinema tickets, admission tickets for children and adults to amusement parks, and children's meals in restaurants. Businesses like Nando's, Bill's, Las Iguanas, ODEON, Techniquest, Rhondda Heritage Park and Dan-yr-Ogof have joined the scheme to pass savings to customers.
Free Kids' Meals and More
Free food for kids is available at Yo! Sushi, Frankie & Benny's and The Banana Tree, among others. Families simply enter their postcode on the website to see local discounts. Over 1,700 businesses across the UK are listed, and the government is encouraging more to join.
How to Access the Savings
Visit summersavings.gov.uk, enter your postcode, adjust the distance dial, optionally filter by attraction or food offers, and click 'Find offers'. A list of nearby businesses with discounts and a map will appear. Discounts are automatically applied when booking a table or buying a ticket.
Eligible Activities
The scheme covers children's menu meals for on-site consumption, children's and family tickets for cinemas, theatres, concerts, shows and exhibitions, and admission tickets for attractions including amusement parks, fairs, museums, zoos, soft play centres, circuses, adventure parks, nature reserves, wildlife parks and observation attractions.
