Manchester Airport Advises Passengers to Add Colourful Item to Luggage
Manchester Airport: Add Colourful Item to Luggage

Manchester Airport has advised all passengers to add a colourful item to their luggage before leaving for the airport, according to guidance published on its website. The packing tip is designed to make travel days easier and help customers spot their bags in busy airports.

Airport's Ultimate Guide

The airport offers an 'ultimate airport guide' to simplify travel. Before departure, passengers should ensure their luggage is suitable and check the weight. The guidance states: "Check the weight of your luggage before leaving for the airport. If you only need to bring down the weight of your luggage a little bit, try wearing the heaviest items of clothing in your bag – it may save you paying for extra luggage."

Once packed, passengers are advised to "decorate your luggage with something very recognisable like colourful ribbons or stickers so you can easily spot your luggage on the baggage carousel. Alternatively, track your luggage with Bluetooth luggage tags."

Similar Advice from Airlines

Several airlines share similar guidance. easyJet recommends colourful ribbons or stickers to ensure luggage is easy to recognise. The airline's website advises: "Make sure your bags stand out from the crowd on the carousel! We advise attaching something noticeable and unique to your luggage like a colourful ribbon, eye-catching sticker or personalised tag. This will make it easier for you to spot your luggage on the carousel at arrivals and avoid any confusion with similar bags. We also recommend adding a label to your luggage with your name and contact details such as address, email and phone number and put a copy of these details inside your bag too! This would really help us reunite you with your bag in the unlikely event of the exterior tags falling off."

Jet2 also advises passengers to write down their flight number when labelling luggage. The airline's website shares 'top baggage tips' for 'a smooth journey', stating: "Label each piece of baggage with your name, flight number, and phone number. Please ensure your baggage is strong and fit for purpose, to protect the contents and to withstand the normal baggage handling process. Soft sided cases and handles, wheels and locks can be particularly vulnerable. Never pack cash, valuable items, perishable goods, important documents or essential medications in your checked baggage."

Impact on Passengers

These tips aim to reduce lost luggage incidents and streamline baggage claim. By making bags easily identifiable, passengers can save time and avoid confusion. The advice is particularly relevant during peak travel seasons when airports are busiest.
