Bake Off star to return to court over indecent image charge

Former Great British Bake Off contestant John Mincher is due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on November 16 after pleading not guilty to a charge of making indecent images of a child. The 39-year-old baker, who appeared on the 2024 series, attended Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Friday, where one charge of making an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child was withdrawn, while another charge of the same classification remained.

Allegations and Court Proceedings

According to The Sun, police found two indecent images of a child on Mincher's phone and arrested him in August. The court reportedly heard that both images were classified as Category A, the most serious classification of child sexual abuse material. Deputy District Judge Kate Harney is said to have told the former star baker that he is accused of 'incredibly serious offences'.

Mincher, who was released on conditional bail, entered a not guilty plea during the hearing.

Career and Public Profile

Mincher, an NHS worker, won Star Baker and a Hollywood handshake in the first episode of the 15th series of The Great British Bake Off. However, he was sent home just two weeks later during bread week.

After his time on the show, he appeared at a handful of events but has largely stayed out of the spotlight. His social media activity quietened after an appearance at Foodies Festival in Nottingham in June 2025, but he reappeared in August to reveal he had undergone surgery on his eye.

In a selfie shared at the time, he wrote: 'Thought I'd show up on the grid for a change. Dodgy post surgery detached retina eye and all.' Weeks later, he shared a birthday post with an update on his recovery, writing: 'Another "first" without my Mom so it was a quiet one.' He added: 'I used to hate thinking about getting old but I've realised more than ever it's a privilege getting old that some aren't fortunate enough to have.'

In the same post, he noted: 'Look close and you can still see my dodgy eye which I still can't see out of properly, if you see me and you're on my left… not ignoring you.'

Next Steps

Mincher has not shared anything since or commented publicly on the allegations. He pleaded not guilty in court, and Metro has reached out to his representatives for comment.
