A man on holiday in Spain has captured the chaotic morning rush for sunbeds at his hotel, with guests sprinting across the courtyard to claim loungers before breakfast. The footage, shared on TikTok, has reignited the debate over the so-called "sunbed wars" that divide holidaymakers every summer.
Footage shows guests sprinting for loungers
Anthony filmed from his hotel room balcony as a wave of guests ran towards the pool, each throwing towels and bags onto sunbeds before heading back inside. None of them stayed to enjoy the loungers they had just claimed, presumably returning after breakfast.
In the video, Anthony can be heard reacting to the scene, telling guests to "get a grip" and tutting at what he witnessed. In his caption, he insisted the footage was not sped up, writing: "No, it's not sped up. That's how fast they run."
Viewers split over sunbed etiquette
The clip quickly attracted comments, with many siding with Anthony and calling for hotels to ban reserving sunbeds with belongings. Others criticized guests for spending their holidays by the pool instead of exploring.
One commenter said: "Why do people pay all that money to go on holiday just to sit by a pool and sleep all day?" Another wrote: "Can't imagine being this bothered over a sunbed. I'd be too busy being out and about enjoying my holiday."
Defenders point to lack of sunbeds
However, some defended the guests, arguing that hotels do not provide enough sunbeds for everyone. If there were enough loungers, they said, nobody would feel the need to race for one.
Others noted that holidaymakers are entitled to relax by the pool, especially older travellers or those wanting to rest. One commenter said: "Some people just want to relax, lie down, chill, and bathe in the pool. Not everyone wanna walk every day and see things the whole day." Another added: "Why can't we let people do whatever they want? There's nothing relaxing about walking around in the baking heat."
