An 80-year-old man has been arrested at Tenerife South Airport after allegedly attempting to board a flight with his deceased wife in a wheelchair. The incident occurred when security staff noticed the woman was unresponsive and had an abnormally low body temperature, prompting immediate activation of emergency protocols.
According to Spanish newspaper Diario de Avisos, the man was pushing the wheelchair when they approached the metal detector. A guard became suspicious and, upon taking the woman's hand, realised she was not breathing and had a very low temperature. The guard then notified a supervisor, and within minutes, security agents, Civil Guard officers, and forensic personnel arrived at the scene.
The husband initially claimed his wife had died inside the airport a few hours earlier. However, several employees reported that he repeatedly tried to attribute her death to the airport facilities, a claim now under investigation. The man cooperated with police and was arrested at the airport. Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the woman's death.
No further details have been released regarding the exact date, the couple's nationalities, or the airline involved. This incident follows a similar case days earlier, where an elderly woman died on an EasyJet flight from Malaga to London, with some passengers alleging she was already deceased when brought on board.
