Man, 65, dies after 134ft Grand Canyon fall

A 65-year-old man has died following a tragic fall from the edge of the Grand Canyon, authorities have confirmed.

The Fatal Incident

The accident occurred on November 7, 2025, at Guano Point, a popular viewing area on the western rim of the canyon situated within the Hualapai Reservation. According to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, the man slipped and fell approximately 130 feet (134ft) into the canyon.

Complex Recovery Operation

In a statement, the sheriff's office detailed the challenging recovery effort. Search and Rescue teams located the man's body about 130 feet down on a scree pile—a slope of loose rock debris.

Technical rope technicians from the Hualapai Nation then established a complex pulley system. Using ropes, they were lowered into the vast canyon to retrieve the victim's body on Thursday afternoon.

The operation was a collaborative effort, with assistance from the Hualapai Tribal Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire, and Grand Canyon West Security.

Aftermath and Condolences

The recovered body was transported to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office for formal identification and to determine the official cause of death. The identity of the man has not yet been made public.

The Mohave County Sheriff's Office extended its deepest sympathies, stating: "Our condolences are with his family. Please respect their privacy during this time."
