Nestled just moments from the lively Earls Court Road, behind quiet cobbled mews, lies a true sanctuary for the discerning traveller. Templeton Garden, the latest venture from the chic European hotel group Miiro, has opened its doors and is already staking a claim as one of the capital's most stylish new hideaways.
A Serene Escape in the City
Housed within a former townhouse, the hotel makes a grand first impression with its white-pillared entrance. Inside, guests are greeted by an aesthetic that seems plucked from a high-end interiors magazine. An elegant colour scheme of creams, beiges, and rusts creates a light and airy atmosphere in the lounge, which flows seamlessly into a beautiful private garden – a rare and precious commodity in central London.
The garden features a terrace, perfect for enjoying an al fresco lunch or evening drinks. For those planning a festive visit, the hotel offers a unique perk: from 17 November to 24 December, guests have access to the 'Ribbon Room'. This Santa's grotto is stocked with beautiful wrapping papers and ribbons, allowing you to wrap your Christmas shopping finds like a professional, all while sipping on a hot buttered Brugal cider from the hotel's bar, Sprout.
Elegant Accommodation
The calming colour palette extends to all 156 bedrooms. A stay in a Junior Suite reveals an elegant and understated space with soft plaster-pink walls and a rich mix of fabric textures that will likely inspire you to redecorate your own home. A bold pop of colour comes from the dark red tiled shower space in the bathroom.
The bathrooms are complete with marble baths, vintage-style brass fittings, and premium Le Labo Santal 33 toiletries. Sleeping under the canopy bed provides a feeling that is both special and wonderfully homely – a difficult balance for any hotel to achieve.
Innovative Dining and Drinking
Evenings at Templeton Garden naturally begin at Sprout bar, a intimate space adorned with hand-painted wallpaper, low velvet seats, and lamp-lit tables, all crowned by a stunning gold oak leaf light fitting.
The real conversation starter, however, is the drinks menu. The bar's Market Stall Menu features truly innovative cocktail creations that utilise ingredients commonly found languishing in the back of your kitchen cupboard. Think a Marmitini, Red Onion Manhattan, or an Anchovy Gimlet.
We opted for the Sweet Pea Spritz, a revelation in a glass. The bartender explained the intricate process: pea pods are roasted, blended back with the peas to create a cordial, which is then mixed with vodka and sparkling wine. The result is a fresh, slightly sweet concoction unlike anything we had ever tasted, and it was utterly delicious.
Dinner at the hotel's Pippin’s restaurant continues the theme of seasonal excellence, with a focus on fresh herbs sourced directly from the garden. A spring vegetable salad was a vibrant plate of crunchy pickled vegetables and leaves atop a tangy cheddar emulsion. For the main course, the catch of the day was a perfectly cooked crispy-skinned stone bass, elevated by a herby and zingy chimichurri sauce.
Rooms at this exquisite central London retreat start from £290 per night.
