The Sydney dining scene is set to lose one of its most cherished institutions as Buon Ricordo, the iconic Italian restaurant in Paddington, announced it will close its doors for good in September 2025 after an remarkable 45-year reign.
A Culinary Legacy Comes to an End
Owners Armando and Pamela Percuoco revealed the emotional decision to shutter their beloved establishment, citing their desire to retire while the restaurant remains at the pinnacle of its success. The couple, now in their seventies, have decided it's time to 'go out on a high' rather than risk declining standards.
'We want to finish while we're still on top,' Armando told Daily Mail Australia. 'It's better to leave when people are still crying for you to stay.'
The Famous $38 Pasta That Defined an Era
Buon Ricordo achieved legendary status partly thanks to its Fettuccine al Tartufovo - a luxurious truffle-infused pasta dish featuring a raw egg yolk that commands a premium $38 price tag. This signature creation became synonymous with Sydney's fine dining experience and developed a cult following among food enthusiasts.
An Emotional Farewell to Loyal Patrons
The restaurant's closure announcement has sparked an outpouring of emotion from generations of diners who have celebrated special occasions within its walls. Many have shared heartfelt memories of anniversary dinners, marriage proposals, and family milestones celebrated over authentic Italian cuisine.
'So many people have met their partners here, got engaged here, celebrated their anniversaries here,' Pamela Percuoco reflected. 'We've been part of so many important moments in people's lives.'
The Changing Face of Sydney's Dining Scene
Buon Ricordo's closure represents another chapter in the evolution of Sydney's hospitality landscape, where longstanding family-run establishments increasingly give way to newer concepts. The restaurant maintained its excellence through decades of culinary trends, economic challenges, and the devastating impact of COVID-19 lockdowns on the hospitality sector.
The Percuocos plan to host a series of farewell events throughout the restaurant's final year of operation, giving loyal customers one last opportunity to experience the magic that made Buon Ricordo a Sydney dining institution for nearly half a century.
