A bodybuilder has claimed her £2,000 Greek holiday was ruined after her arm was sucked into a hot tub filter – and the hotel allegedly told her it was her fault. Emily Harper-Hemming, 28, from Wrexham, North Wales, jetted off from Manchester Airport with her boyfriend Josh Martin, 29, for a week in Santorini on May 31.
The couple had enjoyed two days relaxing in their private pool and hot tub attached to their premium suite. But on day three, when Ms Harper-Hemming joined Mr Martin in the hot tub, she claims her right arm was ‘sucked’ into an air vent, with her skin beginning to break. After an agonising 20-second struggle, Mr Martin managed to pull her free, leaving her arm red and burning.
Ms Harper-Hemming, a bodybuilder, said the suction was so powerful she could not free herself and feared what might have happened to a child. Shocking photos show her armpit and underarm severely bruised. She reported the incident to the hotel via WhatsApp and was initially told they were ‘shocked and deeply sorry’, but later alleged they said it was her fault and that it had never happened before.
After back-and-forth with the hotel, Ms Harper-Hemming said they refunded the last two nights of the couple’s stay. They moved to another hotel to salvage the remaining days before flying home on June 7. She re-uploaded a negative review online after claiming she was made to delete it to get the refund.
Ms Harper-Hemming said the incident ‘ruined’ her holiday and left her on edge. She added: ‘I started to question myself but then my partner and friends were reassuring and said this wasn't normal. I shouldn't have an injury like this.’
