A holidaymaker has successfully forced easyJet to refund a £48 baggage fee after taking a photo of her bag fitting the airline's sizer. Alison Evans, 36, was travelling from Belfast to London with her nine-year-old son when she was told her cabin bag was too big and charged the fee.
Ms Evans said she had measured the bag at home and used it on multiple flights earlier this year. She felt intimidated into paying, describing the interaction as 'rude' and saying a card machine was 'thrusted' at her without a receipt. She later discovered the online charge for a larger bag was only £32.
After posting photos of the bag in the sizer on X with the caption 'please explain why I was charged £48 for this bag when it fits', easyJet investigated and refunded the fee. An airline spokesperson said: 'Given the bag shown appears to fit within the gauge, we are investigating further and will refund the extra charges incurred by the family as a gesture of goodwill if an error has been made.'
Ms Evans advised other travellers to measure their bags and take photos if faced with similar issues. She said the experience has 'put me off using the airline again'.
