Concerns are intensifying for the safety of a British pensioner who mysteriously vanished from Spain's Costa del Sol, sparking a large-scale search operation by local authorities.
David Sillars, 73, was last seen leaving the Doña Maria bar in the town of Manilva on Tuesday evening and has not been seen or heard from since. The alarm was raised when he failed to return to his home in the nearby area of Sabinillas.
Desperate Search Underway
Spanish Policia Nacional, supported by local fire crews and volunteers, have launched a major land and air search for the missing expat. The search efforts are concentrated around the rugged terrain between Manilva and his home village.
Mr. Sillars is described as being in good health for his age but is without his daily medication, a fact that has significantly heightened worries for his wellbeing.
A Community Rallies
The local British expatriate community has been rocked by the disappearance. Friends and neighbours have joined the search, distributing flyers and sharing appeals for information across social media platforms.
"Everyone is desperately worried," said one local resident. "It's completely out of character for him. We just hope he is found safe and well soon."
Appeal for Information
Authorities are urging anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward. They are particularly interested in speaking to any motorists who may have dashcam footage from the MAN-340 road between Manilva and Sabinillas on Tuesday night.
Mr. Sillars' family in the UK has been informed and are understood to be deeply distressed by his disappearance as the search enters a critical phase.
