A Northumberland village has been rated as one of the best places in the UK for a 'screen free' family break, finishing second in a new ranking.
Experts at bedding company Custom Size Beds conducted a search for the best locations across the country for a 'digital detox', looking at factors such as popularity, seclusion, dark sky visibility, natural beauty, diversity of activities and proximity to campsites. Elsdon, in Northumberland National Park, achieved a score of 38 out of a possible, placing it behind only Beddgelert in Snowdonia, Wales.
Elsdon's appeal
The village is described as a 'stunning hamlet' by the experts, who enthused: 'You’ll have the unique opportunity to discover some of the UK’s lesser-known walking trails, immerse yourself in nature and enjoy some of the clearest skies at night.'

A glowing TripAdvisor review about Elsdon reads: 'This is such a beautiful, wild and extensive area of the British Isles. One can walk for miles and enjoy breathtaking scenery and spectacular views by day and enjoy star-filled clear skies by night. This is a very special area indeed and well worth visiting.'
Other North East destinations
Blanchland, a small village on the border of Northumberland and County Durham, also made the top 10, finishing in 9th place with a score of 35.
