easyJet and easyJet holidays have launched a pledge to cover the cost of a baby's first passport, offering families £66.50 towards a break – the price of a child's passport in the UK. The initiative aims to make travelling abroad easier after research revealed that 36% of new parents find getting the document for their newborn a major hurdle.
Passport photo challenges
One particular challenge is getting a passport photo. Parents needed an average of four attempts to secure an approved picture of their baby, with 24% needing six goes to get the perfect shot. Nearly one in 10 (9%) even admitted to not knowing their baby needed their own passport until they started planning a holiday.
To help out, the airline and tour operator have teamed up with Peppa Pig, little sister Evie and her family to help parents prepare for travel with young ones. A new digital short video provides practical advice on taking a baby passport photo alongside tips for holidays with young children and is available on the Peppa Pig Muddy Puddle Parenting YouTube channel.
Making family travel easier
easyJet Captain Kate West, who features in the new video, said: “We carry millions of families across Europe every year, and we know that travelling with a baby brings a whole series of exciting firsts.
“We want to make travel as easy and accessible as possible for everyone, including young families, so they can enjoy all the experiences and memories that travel can bring.
“We hope that covering the cost of a baby’s first passport goes a small way towards making that first family adventure a little easier and gives our youngest travellers a warm welcome to the world.”
How to claim the offer
Stuart Wright, customer director at easyJet holidays, added: “Travel has a unique way of bringing families together, and a baby's very first holiday is often one of those moments parents remember for years to come.
“By covering the cost of a baby's first passport, we're helping more families start making those memories that little bit sooner. Combined with our great-value packages, family-friendly hotels and thousands of Free Kids Places, it's another way we're making family holidays easier and more affordable.”
